Textron, Providence, R.I., posted a 60% increase in income from continuing operations in the third-quarter largely due to the acquisition of Ex-Cell-O Corp., an aerospace manufacturer. Textron, which is in aerospace technology, commercial products and financial services, also said it had third-quarter revenue 33% higher than last year. The company said the improvement in continuing operations this year also reflected higher deliveries on several major defense programs, strong gains in its industrial business and reduced interest expense. However, the company added that income in the consumer finance business was under pressure due to an increase in loan losses.
