SAN DIEGO — Junior running back Pierre Jones scored four touchdowns and threw for another Friday night as Sweetwater won at Montgomery, 42-0.
Sweetwater (2-0, 6-0) took over first place in the Metro-Mesa League. Montgomery fell to 1-1 and 4-2-1.
Sweetwater’s top-ranked defense got its fifth straight shutout and allowed Montgomery minus-five yards of offense in the second half.
Jones, the second-ranked rusher in the county with 991 yards, scored on runs of 7, 18, 65 and 2 yards and gained 225 yards for 19 carries. He threw a 35-yard scoring pass on an option play to wide receiver Xavier Sanchez on Sweetwater’s third play of the second half.
Sweetwater defensive back Scott Catlin intercepted two passes from Montgomery quarterback Troy Beale and Mike Molina intercepted another at the goal line to end the first half as Sweetwater led 28-0.
