Fred W. Friendly, former president of CBS News, will receive the International Documentary Assn.’s 1986 Career Award at a luncheon at the Bel Age Hotel, West Hollywood, on Nov. 19.
Friendly joined CBS News in 1950 as executive producer for the “See It Now” series with Edward R. Murrow. He originated “CBS Reports” and was the network’s news president from 1964 to 1966.
He resigned the presidency to protest the airing of a fifth rerun of “I Love Lucy” instead of a Senate committee hearing on Vietnam.
