Garden Grove League : La Quinta Prevails : Aztecs’ Run Past Los Amigos, 34-15
La Quinta High School is well-known for its passing game, but Friday night against Los Amigos the Aztecs proved that their running game is sound as well.
Behind a surprising team total of 202 yards rushing, including four touchdowns, La Quinta defeated Los Amigos, 34-15, in the Garden Grove League opener for both at Garden Grove High School.
Halfback Alan Stevenson rushed for 88 yards in 17 carries, including touchdown runs of 5, 9 and 5 yards, to help the Aztecs pull away in a game that was tied, 7-7, at halftime.
All of Stevenson’s touchdowns came in the second half as La Quinta (1-0, 3-3) used its passing game to get inside the Lobos’ 10-yard line and then ran the ball over from there.
Los Amigos (0-1, 3-3) scored its second touchdown on the last play of the game on a 69-yard pass from Andy Baturevich to Mark Hyatt but it was hardly enough to make a difference.
