Joey Sindelar tied the course record with a nine-under-par 62 Saturday at Pensacola, Fla., to move within one stroke of leader Ernie Gonzalez in the second round of the $300,000 Pensacola Open golf tournament.
Sindelar, 28, equaled the record set by Curtis Strange in 1979.
The final two rounds of the rain-delayed event will be played today.
The 14-under-par 36-hole score of 128 by Gonzalez equaled the low score of the season for two rounds, by Hal Sutton in the Phoenix Open. Gonzalez had a 63 to go with an opening 65.
Gonzalez, from Chula Vista, sank a 35-foot putt in a drizzle to birdie the 17th hole for a two-stroke lead but bogeyed the 18th.
Dale Douglass birdied three of the first four holes and took a one-stroke lead over Miller Barber after 36 holes of a $175,000 PGA Senior tournament at Melbourne, Fla.
Douglass shot a five-under-par 67 for a two-round total of 135.
Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain and Owe Sellberg of Sweden shared the lead at 206 after the third round of the $250,000 Sanyo Open at Barcelona, Spain.
Patti Rizzo shot a one-under-par 71 to take a three-shot lead after three rounds of the $260,000 Takara Invitational at Gamo, Japan.
