Michael Andretti broke the Laguna Seca Raceway record Friday in practice for Sunday’s 300-kilometer Indy car race at Monterey.
The 23-year-old driver, trying to overtake Bobby Rahal in a bid for his first CART-PPG championship, drove a Cosworth-powered March around the 1.9-mile road course at an average speed of 127.750 m.p.h.
That broke the record of 126.596 m.p.h. set in October of 1984 by his father, Mario Andretti.
