Community College Roundup : Orange Coast Beats Golden West
Curt Christensen scored with 35 seconds remaining Wednesday to lift the Orange Coast College water polo team to a 10-9 victory over Golden West in a nonconference match at Cal State Long Beach.
The Pirates, ranked fourth in Southern California, trailed the second-ranked Rustlers, 9-8, until Eric Keller scored his fourth goal of the game with 1:15 left to tie the score, 9-9. Chuck Leatherman added three goals for OCC (5-1).
Jason Jeffries scored four goals and Gary Tichy added two for Golden West (4-2).
In women’s volleyball action:
Golden West 3, Grossmont 1--Middle blockers Kathy Wissmen (20 kills) and Dionne Powers (16 kills) led the Rustlers to an 11-15, 15-3, 16-14, 15-1, victory over the Griffins in a nonconference match at Grossmont. Golden West is 2-0.
El Camino 3, Orange Coast 1--The Warriors beat the Pirates, 15-13, 15-11, 8-15, 15-5, in a nonconference match at Orange Coast. Ann Javage had 13 kills for the Pirates (1-2).
