There Really Is a Paxos

In Mona Gable’s otherwise excellent and entertaining interview with John Knowles (“Novelist Knowles Goes Hollywood With ‘Axie Reed,’ ” Aug. 27) she dispenses a surprising piece of misinformation. She tells us that the Greek island of Paxos is “fictional.”
The island of Paxos may be reached by taking a ferry boat from Corfu. The late actor-writer Peter Bull maintained a summer home on Paxos, and celebrated its charms in a book entitled “It Isn’t All Greek to Me” (Peter Davies, London, 1967). I even find the island listed in the index of my “Life Pictorial Atlas of the World.”
Yes, Mona Gable, there is a Paxos!
