College Roundup : Chapman Advances in Volleyball
Chapman College split a pair of matches Thursday night to advance to the championship bracket at the BYU women’s Volleyball Invitational in Provo, Utah.
The Panthers lost to Utah, 15-4, 16-14, 15-11 in the morning match but defeated Maryland, 7-15, 15-10, 15-9, 16-14, in the afternoon. Tammy Light had 13 kills and Shelly Jorgensen added 10 in the victory over Maryland. Dana Beardsley had 30 assists in the two matches.
Chapman, the only Division II team in the tournament, faces Washington State Friday at 1 p.m.
In other nonconference action:
UC Irvine 3, Hofstra 0--Kris Roberts had 9 kills, 10 solo blocks and 3 aces in the 15-5, 15-4, 15-12 victory. Dana Parker and Teresa Mergins had six kills each for Irvine (5-7). The Anteaters play in the Cal State Fullerton tournament today.
Hawaii-Pacific 3, Southern California College 0--The Sea Warriors (3-8) had little trouble with the Vanguards, 15-4, 15-6, 15-2. Southern California College (0-6) plays at Fresno Pacific tonight at 7:30.
Boise 3, Cal State Fullerton 1--Despite 13 kills from freshman Susan Herman, the Broncos (5-1) defeated the Titans (3-5), 15-11, 15-9, 15-17, 15-9.
