Oriental Fruit Flies Found in Rosemead Worry Officials
Three male Oriental fruit flies were found this week in Rosemead, officials said Thursday.
“We may be seeing the beginning of an infestation,” said Bill Edwards, a spokesman for the county Department of Agriculture. “We would wait until we found maggots and females to say it is infested, though.”
The find has prompted intensive trapping and eradication efforts.
The pest feeds on many of the state’s fruits and vegetables.
