A City of Commerce physician who falsely certified that 64 workers were disabled when they were actually on strike at a Vernon packing plant last year has been sentenced by a Superior Court judge to three years in state prison, officials with the state Employment Development Department said. Dr. Anthony Martinez was charged with violating the state’s Unemployment Insurance Code after an undercover operation in which two state investigators posed as striking workers and were certified as disabled, EDD investigator Nadine Bobik said. Martinez pleaded guilty to the charges in August.
