The clinical laboratory at St. Jude Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Fullerton has been awarded a two-year accreditation by an independent commission after an on-site inspection.
A team of pathologists, doctors, scientists, medical technologists and pathology residents with the College of American Pathologists’ Commission on Laboratory Accreditation evaluated St. Jude’s lab for quality assurance, procedures, materials, equipment maintenance, safety, staff education and qualifications before bestowing the maximum accreditation.
The evaluation supersedes inspections required by the government, according to Rich Williams, administrative director of the hospital’s laboratory services.
Dr. John K. Duckworth, who heads the accrediting commission, congratulated the hospital laboratory in a prepared statement for the “excellent services it provides for patients and their physicians.”
The lab is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and performs about 1,200 procedures daily.
