Joe Gonzales, former Cal State Fullerton assistant wrestling coach and 1984 Olympic team member, has accepted the assistant coaching position at Arizona State University.
Gonzales, a member of the U.S. Wrestling Hall of Fame, joined the Fullerton wrestling staff in 1985 after a successful collegiate career at Cal State Bakersfield, where he twice won the national championship in the 118-pound division.
During the 1986 season, Gonzales was instrumental in coaching three Titan wrestlers to the NCAA championships. Fullerton finished the season with an 11-8-1 record and a third-place finish in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn.
