Scott Molina of Boulder, Colo., easily won a triathlon at Wilkes-Barre, Pa., defeating Ken Glah of West Chester by nearly two minutes.
Molina, the world’s top-ranked triathlete, was in sixth place at the end of the 3/4-mile swim. He moved into the lead about five miles into the 25-mile bicycle race and never lost it through the 10K run. His time was 1 hour 54 minutes 15 seconds.
Molina earned $5,000.
In central Japan, Americans Mark Allen and Julie Moss won the Ironman Japan ’86 triathlon.
Allen was timed in 6:56:26 in covering 2 miles swimming, 97 miles cycling and 19 miles running. Scott Tinley finished second in 7:10:17.
Moss, the women’s winner in this event last year, finished in 8:19:37, the 10th best time overall.
