Anaheim : Chicago Man Drowns in Motel Swimming Pool
A Chicago man drowned while swimming in a motel pool Friday, coroner’s officials said Saturday.
Junior Baca, 33, who reportedly was “somewhat of a swimmer,” was taking a dip in the pool at the Space Age Lodge, 1176 W. Katella Ave. about 8:15 p.m., said Coroner’s Deputy Richard Slaughter.
Baca’s wife, a non-swimmer, told authorities she saw him “starting to struggle” and she ran for help, Slaughter said. By the time she returned with others, Baca was under the water, he said. Baca was taken to Western Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m.
An autopsy determined the cause of death as “freshwater drowning,” and revealed no sign of heart attack, stroke or head injury, Slaughter said, adding that toxicological tests will be conducted.
