LIMA, Peru — Rebels commandeered a food supply truck and confiscated its cargo of 1,000 frozen chickens to give to the poor, authorities said.
Police said members of the pro-Cuba Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement distributed the chickens Monday to shantytown dwellers in the northern part of the capital. They abandoned the truck after painting slogans on walls.
The rebels, named after the legendary Peruvian who fought Spanish conquerers, have claimed responsibility for a number of bombings of banks and government offices during the last year.
