Local News in Brief : Fatality Blamed on Gas-Pedal Malfunction

An accident that killed an 81-year-old North Hollywood driver Sunday apparently was caused by a stuck gas pedal on the man’s car, Los Angeles police said Monday.
Leonard Gonzalez died about 2:30 p.m. after he lost control of his car as he was turning onto Vineland Avenue from Vicland Place in North Hollywood. The car crashed into a wooden fence, careened into an apartment building, then hit a tree, Detective Frank Rodriguez said.
The victim’s wife, Lydia, who was a passenger in the car, told police that her husband had had problems with the accelerator sticking on at least two occasions, Rodriguez said.
Lydia Gonzalez was not injured in the accident, Rodriguez said.
