Thiokol Cuts 11 Posts in Reorganization

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah — Morton Thiokol Inc. on Saturday announced the elimination of 11 positions at its Wasatch Operations as the company reorganizes its space, strategic and tactical divisions.
The reorganization follows a presidential commission report that blamed a rupture in a Thiokol-made rocket booster for the explosion of the shuttle Challenger last Jan. 28. Thiokol has since created a permanent engineering staff in its space division.
Company officials have said the reorganization will permit the plant’s three divisions to compete as independent businesses, with the managers of each division responsible for operating their departments as independent profit centers.
