Big Income Jump Posted by Irvine’s StarTel Corp.
Crediting sales in new markets, StarTel Corp. of Irvine, a maker of messaging systems, said net income climbed to $88,000 in the second quarter from $6,000 posted during the same period a year ago. Revenue was $3 million, up 6% year to year.
For the first half, the company earned $152,000, compared to a net loss of $350,000 during the first half of 1985. Revenue was $5.6 million, compared to $4.9 million a year ago.
The company said it appointed Charles A. Merk to the newly created position of senior vice president of engineering. Merk comes to the company from ITT Corp., where he directed several communications-related product lines.
