Boy, 2, Dies; Locked in Father’s Car for an Hour

MAGNOLIA, Tex. — A 2-year-old boy died after spending more than an hour locked in his father’s car while the temperature outside was in the high 90s, investigators said.

The boy’s father, Ryan Scott Welch, 21, and his grandfather, Dennis R. James, told investigators they believed that Ryan Dennis Welch was at home with his mother when they went to a ballgame. Authorities said they were ruling the death accidental.
