All 1984-1986 Audi 5000s with automatic transmissions are being recalled to install new gear-shifting mechanisms to prevent sudden, unexpected acceleration, Audi of America Inc. announced. The redesigned mechanism requires drivers to depress the brake pedal while shifting out of park into drive or reverse, the company said in a statement. About 132,000 vehicles were affected by the recall.
