The Region : Perrier Water Recalled

Great Waters of France is voluntarily recalling all 11-ounce bottles of non-flavored Perrier water in Southern California from San Luis Obispo and Tulare counties, south, after it was found that low levels of petroleum hydrocarbons may have been present in a bottle of imported mineral water that made a Los Angeles woman ill, the state Health Department said. The water appeared to have small amounts of the organic compounds, but no final determination has been made, said a health official who asked not to be identified. After drinking a bottle of the water purchased at a Thrifty drugstore in Altadena, Iris Mendez, 33, complained of a burning sensation in her throat. Mendez, who took the unconsumed water to a hospital, was treated and released. “While there is no eminent health hazard, Great Waters of France is voluntarily removing the product and consumers may return the 11-ounce, non-flavored Perrier to their retailer for exchange,” a Health Department statement read.
