Two Santa Ana men who allegedly tried to run over a police officer were captured Monday after a chase through Costa Mesa to Santa Ana.
Carlos Luna, 21, and Guadalupe Cota, 25, both of Santa Ana, were booked at Costa Mesa Jail on suspicion of burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, a police spokesman said.
The incident began about 3:15 a.m. when Costa Mesa Officer Joseph Williams noticed two men in an alley near a motel. When Williams ordered them to halt, they both jumped into a car and fled, striking Williams on the elbow, the spokesman said.
Other Costa Mesa officers chased the pair into Santa Ana, where their car crashed at 1st Street and Orange Avenue.
Cota was apprehended near the car, police said, and Luna was found later with the help of a Santa Ana police dog near the corner of Orange Avenue and Walnut Street.
