Friendly Europe

In response to Gloria Lopez’s article, “Europe, a Buyer’s Market” (June 29): My husband and I just returned from a month’s trip to Germany and Austria. We were in large cities and small villages. We saw very few fellow Americans, but it was a treat for us not to have to stand in long lines to see something of interest or wait an hour to be seated in a restaurant.
The people in both countries couldn’t have been nicer or friendlier. But, yes, they are definitely feeling the crunch of lack of American tourists.
At no time did we feel nervous or fearful, nor did we see any signs of outrageous behavior, violence or riots. There was absolutely nothing to detract from the beauty and pleasure of our trip.
