Local telephone rate increase requests declined.

The nation’s local telephone companies asked for $449 million in rate increases in the second quarter of 1986, the Federal Communications Commission reported. The figure is about half the $855.5 million requested in the first three months of the year. About a quarter of the second-quarter requests were granted, the compilation showed, although there were $519.9 million in rate requests pending before state public utility commissions when the quarter ended, another record low. The figures reflect business and residential rate increases. As of June 30, rate changes were pending in Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina and Texas.
