WASHINGTON — Confirmation hearings on President Reagan’s nomination of Supreme Court Justice William H. Rehnquist to be chief justice are scheduled for July 22, the Senate Judiciary Committee announced Wednesday.

A committee spokesman said Thurmond hopes the Senate can vote on the nominations before a two-week recess, beginning Aug. 14.
