Dr. Kenneth L. Moffett, superintendent of the Lennox School District, has been named the new superintendent of the Cerritos-based ABC Unified School District.
The board voted 6-0 to hire Moffett to head the 22,000-student district. One member was on vacation. Moffett, who has been superintendent of the 5,000-student Lennox elementary school district since 1976, is expected to start his new job Aug. 1. Lennox is in a unincorporated area next to Los Angeles International Airport.
Moffett was given a four-year contract at a yearly salary of $80,000.
Moffett replaces Eugene Tucker, who accepted a similar post with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.
Moffett, who is on vacation and was not present during the board’s selection, has a bachelor of arts degree from Western Washington State College in Bellingham, Wash., a master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles and a doctorate from USC.
Moffett was the top candidate among 15 people interviewed by the board for the job, board member Richard Arthur said.
