William H. Alston, a University of Rhode Island basketball player, was released on $50,000 personal recognizance after his arraignment in South Kingstown, R.I., on a charge of sexually assaulting a female student.
Alston, 20, of Paterson, N.J., voted the best defensive player on the team last season as a sophomore, entered no plea to a felony charge of first-degree sexual assault. A clerk at the Washington County District Court said the case now goes to a grand jury for possible indictment.
