6 Deaths, 90 Injuries Linked to Fireworks
Fourth of July fireworks-related accidents killed six people and injured more than 90 others, most of them spectators, officials said Saturday.
A Tennessee woman died when she fell off a bluff during a private fireworks show and a Quincy, Mass., man died when he set off a homemade pipe bomb.
Two people helping at separate fireworks shows were killed. In Madison, Wis., an employee of a fireworks display company was killed while lighting rockets at a city park. The fire chief of Edgewater, Fla., was killed when a rocket misfired while he was overseeing a volunteer Fire Department display, police said.
A Huntsville, Ala., teen-ager was killed when fireworks exploded inside a van and fire swept through the vehicle. In Batavia, Ill., a teen-ager was killed in an explosion at a friend’s house.
Twenty-five people were injured at a public show in Rehoboth, Mass., when fireworks burst into flames and shot into the crowd.
