The Penn Trial
After following the Sagon Penn case from the beginning, and after reading the reactions to the verdict, I have to wonder how everyone involved would feel had the races of the participants been reversed. What if it had been a black Jacobs beating on a white Penn, and a black Riggs had died? I sadly suspect that the reactions would have been different.
Finally, Police Chief Bill Kolender’s behavior is unconscionable. His officer was killed in a tragic situation, but he was not murdered. To persist in labeling Penn a “cop killer” is to do a disservice to the community and to our fine, professional police officers.
