An earthquake some residents and police thought to be a sonic boom because of the noise that accompanied it was reported Saturday.
Sue Brown, Chula Vista police dispatcher, said someone from the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park called the department to tell them that an earthquake centered in Chula Vista had occurred at 12:15 p.m. Three aftershocks within 10 minutes of the original quake were also recorded. No damage or injuries were reported.
Seismologists were not able to give a Richter scale reading for the earthquake.
