TEXAS GRANGERS
During the last few weeks there has been quite a lot of hoopla in Calendar over rock artists writing songs about small towns.
May I remind all of you that this is not a new phenomenon. The great Texas blues-rock band ZZ Top preceded this current fashion by well over a decade.
In 1973, they wrote a song about the small town of La Grange, Tex., appropriately titled “La Grange.”
So instead of having a late-comer like John Cougar Mellencamp on your cover (“Back Home in Indiana,” by Robert Hilburn, May 11), how about a cover story on the Tres Hombres from El Loco state of Texas?
