American Legion Wins Hollywood Park Feature

Favored American Legion, ridden by Chris McCarron, took the lead in the final furlong Thursday and posted a 1-length victory in the $35,000 feature race for older horses at Hollywood Park.

American Legion, who earned $19,250 with the victory, was timed in 1:09 2/5 for six furlongs. The 6-year-old is trained by Wayne Lukas.

Triple Sec, ridden by Laffit Pincay, finished second, 3 1/2 lengths in front of Proudest Hour, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye.

Sent off as the even-money choice, American Legion paid $4, $2.60 and $2.40. Triple Sec returned $3.60 and $2.40 and Proudest Hour paid $4 to show.

McCarron, Pincay and Pat Valenzuela had three winners apiece Thursday. Pincay was later taken to Inglewood’s Centinela Hospital Medical Center for precautionary X-rays after he was injured in a ninth-race spill.

Pincay fell after his mount, Sovereign Honey, struck the inner rail of the turf course at the top of the stretch. Pincay was examined by Dr. Robert Kerlan at the track first-aid station. Kerlan said Pincay “appears to have no more than a sprained ankle” and could be back riding today.
