Los Alamitos : Council Raises Wages, Frees Officer for Patrol
The City Council has approved a $6.17-million budget that includes an 8% increase in general operating expenditures.
The budget approved Monday contains $12,300 for disaster preparedness, including a part-time researcher to assist the city in its emergency planning, City Manager Michael Graziano said.
In a move to increase police visibility, the city is freeing an officer for patrol and replacing its six white patrol cars with traditional black-and-white vehicles. A police dispatcher also will be hired.
Salaries for the city’s 56 full-time employees and several part-time employees increased between 2.5% and 6%, in accordance with a two-year wage agreement entering its second year.
The raises are a result of the city’s goal to improve salaries, boosting them to 11th among county cities. Department heads received 5% raises.
