Carson : Echoes of Double Talk
It was mostly double talk at the City Council meeting, but not the sort politicians usually engage in: The sound system in the council chambers went on the blink Monday.
First, the microphone for Councilwoman Vera De Witt Robles didn’t work. City employees swarmed over the complex bank of electronics and got that fixed only to discover they had somehow incorporated a distinct--and unnerving--echo into the system.
Muttering about “double talk,” Mayor Sylvia Muise (Mayor Sylvia Muise) managed to carry on (managed to carry on) until more wires were pulled (until more wires were pulled).
That cleared up the echo just fine, but every time Councilwoman Kay Calas tried to speak, a loud hum filled the room. Calas finally gave up and spoke unamplified.
