Scott Scarborough, a 6-8 center from Las Vegas who averaged 30 points and 12 rebounds a game as a junior college player, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Cal Lutheran University.
Scarborough, a junior, will join Santa Barbara’s Michael Demeter (6-7) and Contra Costa County’s James Faulk (6-3), both of whom have signed letters of intent with Cal Lutheran.
Shaun Murphy and Dave Milstien of Simi Valley High have been selected for the state high school baseball team that travels to Oral Roberts University for a weekend series against an Oklahoma all-star squad. Murphy and Milstien were selected for the team based on their performances in last weekend’s California high school North-South all-star series in Stockton.
Murphy has signed to play at Arizona next season. Milstien was drafted by the Red Sox in last week’s amateur draft and will meet with team officials when he returns from Oklahoma.
Scott Meyers, of Thousand Oaks, drove a golf ball 334 yards at La Mirada Golf Course, to qualify for regional competition in the National Long Drive Championships that will be held Aug. 16 in Reno, Nev.
Meyers and Bob Nicoletti, of Sunset Beach, will represent the Southern California PGA Metro Chapter at the district qualifying in Reno.
Olympian Sherri Howard of Cal State Los Angeles, formerly of Kennedy High, finished ninth in the women’s 400-meter dash Saturday at the NCAA track championships. Howard was timed in 54.11. Lillie Leatherwood of Alabama won the event in 51.23.
