Striking meatpackers at the Geo. A. Hormel & Co. plant in Austin, Minn., lost a round in their bitter nine-month dispute against the company when a federal judge in St. Paul ruled that the parent union legally took control of the local. Judge Edward Devitt granted the International Food and Commercial Workers an injunction enforcing trustee status on Austin Local P-9 members. The local said it would appeal. The 1,500-member local struck last Aug. 17 in a dispute over wages, seniority and safety.
