U.S. District Judge William P. Gray said Xerox was guilty of “negligent misrepresentation” when it sold its money-losing electro-optical systems unit to Viclite, a Taiwanese company, in 1973. Gray said that Viclite was also entitled to interest dating from 1973, which would bring the size of the judgment to about $4.2 million, said Gregory Nicolaysen, Viclite’s attorney. Viclite contended that Xerox sold it faulty technology for military night vision devices. Xerox said the judgment in the 10-year-old suit would not have a meaningful financial impact on the company.
