San Diego Section Baseball : Santana, Mission Bay Receive Top Seeds

Santana and Mission Bay, as expected, were named top seeds in the CIF San Diego Section baseball playoffs, which begin Tuesday.

Santana, the No.1-ranked team in San Diego and top seed in 3-A, will play host to No. 9 Sweetwater (11-12). The Sultans (23-2) won 22 of their last 23 games to win the Grossmont League. No. 6 Fallbrook (20-5) will travel to No. 10 Mira Mesa (15-13). No. 2 Mount Carmel (23-4), the Palomar League champion, is the second seed in 3-A and will play host to No. 5 Point Loma (19-5), which won the City Eastern League.

No. 3 Valhalla (19-6-1) will travel to No. 7 Bonita Vista (18-7), the Metro-Mesa League champion.

In that game, David Woodhouse (9-0 with 82 strikeouts in 59 innings) will pitch for Bonita Vista against Rob Sharp (5-1 and 55 strikeouts in 47 innings).

In the 2-A upper bracket, City Western League champion Mission Bay (20-5), the top-seeded and No. 4-ranked team, will play host to Hoover (13-10). Escondido (15-11) will travel to fourth-seeded Southwest (12-8), which won the Metro-South Bay League.

In the lower bracket, No. 8 San Marcos (14-9), the Avocado League champion, will play host to Castle Park (12-11). Third-seeded San Diego (14-11-1), the City Central League champion, will play host to University (14-10).

All games Tuesday are at 3 p.m.

The semifinals will be held Thursday at neutral sites chosen by the highest-seeded team in each game.
