MIA Talks Expected to Resume in June

WASHINGTON — Vietnam has agreed to resume technical talks with the United States on locating Americans missing in action in the Vietnam War, State Department officials said Friday.
A department official, who requested anonymity, said there is a “high probability” the talks will resume in June in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese goverment suspended the talks in protest over the April 15 “inhumane attack on Libya” that was ordered by President Reagan. Before the suspension, American officials had said there was an agreement for a two-year timetable for resolving the MIA issue.
The United States and Vietnam do not have diplomatic relations, but have been holding talks on MIA issues for several years.
The U.S. government lists more than 2,300 American servicemen as missing in action in Southeast Asia. Almost all of them are believed dead.
