San Diego Prep Baseball Roundup : Morse Wins Protest, Loses Game
- Share via
SAN DIEGO — Morse High School nearly pulled off the improbable Thursday.
Morse protested an umpire’s call in a City Eastern League game at Point Loma May 14. The protest was upheld, so the game was resumed Thursday in the fifth inning with Point Loma leading, 11-1.
Morse closed the gap, but couldn’t beat No. 5-ranked Point Loma, which won 13-8. If Morse had won, the Pointers (7-3 in league, 19-5 overall) would have lost one game in the standings and dropped to 6-4. Morse (5-5, 14-13) would have been tied with the Pointers at 6-4 for second in the league.
Though the Point Loma and Mira Mesa are co-champions, Mira Mesa (7-3, 15-13) will enter the San Diego Section 3-A playoffs as the City Eastern League’s No. 1 team because it twice defeated Point Loma, 5-4.
