New Crosby Tournament Guarantee Is Withdrawn

Kathryn Crosby has withdrawn her guarantee of $2 million for the new Crosby golf tournament at Greensboro, N.C., but officials said the event will still be played as scheduled June 5-8.
Spokesman Norman C. Gaddis declined to say why Mrs. Crosby changed her mind, saying only it was related to family matters. Mrs. Crosby, who could not be reached for comment, is the widow of Bing Crosby and a key organizer of the charity tournament.
Gaddis said he hoped the purse will reach $500,000.
The Crosby family last year withdrew Bing Crosby’s name from a PGA tournament on the Monterey Peninsula. That tournament became the AT&T; Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
