Sheriff’s Deputy Found Slain; Hitchhiker Sought

ATLANTA, Mich. — A sheriff’s deputy was found dead Sunday, one day after he radioed that he was picking up a hitchhiker, authorities said.
Otsego County Deputy Carl Darling, 35, apparently was murdered, said Naomi Deo, assistant to the Montmorency County prosecutor. Authorities were searching for a man witnesses reported seeing in the deputy’s car shortly after he made the radio call.
