Mexico Minimum Wage Talks Reach Impasse

MEXICO CITY — Despite two days of negotiations, officials Wednesday had not reached agreement on how much the minimum wage should be boosted.
The National Minimum Wage Commission is considering a request by the nation’s labor organizations to increase the minimum daily wage by 35%, starting today.
The minimum wage in Mexico City is about $3.20 a day. Labor leaders have argued that the minimum wage does not allow workers to keep pace with the sharp rise in inflation. Consumer prices soared 63.7% last year and are expected to surpass that rate this year.
