A survivor of a Nazi concentration camp told a court in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, that she saw babies slaughtered and carted off like “logs of wood” but that she knew nothing of defendant Andrija Artukovic’s role as police and justice minister of Croatia. Ruza Rubcic, 74, a retired teacher, was the first witness at the trial of Artukovic, 86, who was extradited Feb. 12 from the United States and charged with murdering civilians and prisoners of war while serving the Nazi puppet state of Croatia in 1941-45.
