Axthelm, King Won’t Return to NBC
NEW YORK — Pete Axthelm and Larry King, who had featured roles on NBC-TV’s National Football League pregame show, will not be back next season, the network confirmed Thursday.
Axthelm appeared on the show for the past seven years, mainly as a betting analyst. He will also give up his NBC job as a horse racing analyst, a network spokesman said. Axthelm was one of the NBC announcers who won an Eclipse Award for coverage of the first Breeders’ Cup in 1984.
King, a national radio and TV talk show host, worked only last season on the “NFL ‘85” program. He said he resigned for personal reasons.
