Marine Midland Banks Inc. reported that its first-quarter net income increased 34% from the first quarter of 1985. The New York bank holding company said the record results reflect strong growth in both net interest income and noninterest income, particularly trading revenues and securities gains. Those positive factors more than offset higher operating expenses and an increased provision for loan losses.
