A42-year-old man was shot to death on a Sherman Oaks street late Tuesday, reportedly after arguing in a nearby bar over a woman, Los Angeles police said.
Robert C. Piper of Sherman Oaks was found dead at about 11 p.m. on the pavement near his car in the 4200 block of Allott Avenue, Lt. Al Durrer said.
Authorities said Piper had an argument with a man who mistakenly thought he was making overtures toward a woman at the Chimneysweep Bar on Woodman Avenue. When Piper left in his car, the man drove after him and fired two shots at him from a small-caliber handgun, Durrer said. One of the bullets struck Piper, he said.
Piper drove for about a third of a block on Allott Avenue, parked the car at the curb, got out and fell dead, Durrer said.
The gunman fled and has not been captured, he said.
