Tenneco is cutting its work force by about 700.

The company said the reductions will take place at its corporate headquarters and several of its Houston-based subsidiaries. Of the 700 jobs, 500 are in the Houston area. The company eliminated 470 jobs in mid-March in the company’s oil exploration and production unit; the additional cuts by midsummer will bring the employee reduction to about 1,200. Those affected will receive severance and vacation pay and out-placement services, officials said.
