If It Ain’t Broke, Then Don’t Fix It

Regarding Mark Heisler’s column of March 27:
1. Heisler wants to lower the 45-second shot clock in college basketball to 30 seconds. Why stop there? How about seven fouls for disqualifications? And then introduce the late, dreaded three-to-make-two NBA bonus rule. And how about a five-point shot from half court?
Have chumps like Heisler ever stopped talking long enough to consider why it is that nobody watches pro basketball and everybody watches college basketball? Why don’t the experts stop screwing around with a good thing? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
2. Heisler also takes Pooh Richardson over DePaul’s Rod Strickland as outstanding freshman point guard. Let’s see now. Richardson has no shot, was humiliated by Strickland at Pauley, and, playing on a mediocre team in a mediocre conference, has mediocre stats. Well, can’t argue with that kind of logic.
